America, circa 1880-1890. likely New York City or Philadelphia. featuring exceptionally carved detail indicative of the period. rectangular top with molded edge above two large drawers housed in handsome acanthus-carved case resting atop brilliantly carved legs. sides are inset with a very well-carved and pierced panel at each side which looks to be carved from a single piece of oak. secondary wood is tulip poplar. H41" W65" D22" Formerly part of the furnishing of The Lakeside Wheel Club / Bloemendaal, Richmond, Virginia. Owned by prominent American businessman Major Lewis Ginter. Ginter purchased much of the furnishings from Tiffany in New York. It’s very likely this piece was purchased there, as he also had a very fine bedroom suit by Herter Brothers in the home.
