Item Details

Description

Franklin Dullin Briscoe (American, 1844-1903), "Portrait of a Highland Cow", 1895, oil on canvas, signed and dated lower right, 30" x 22". Presented in a period giltwood and gesso frame.

Condition

In generally very good restored condition. Canvas relined. Right edge with abrasions. Inpainting repair in the upper background, right edge and within the craquelure lines, although it is difficult for UV light to completely penetrate the varnish layer. Two possible tear repairs to mid-right, close to the edge. Faint craquelure and layer of surface dirt.
