Description

Fiske Company, American Stallion Trotter Horse weathervane with lovely verdigris finish. second half 19th century, copper section body assembled with cast iron head, The Morgan trotter "Ethan Allen" was the likely inspiration for this weathervane. Ethan Allen (1849-1876) was considered one of the greatest stallions foaled in the United States, and his legacy survives in the bloodlines of all Morgans. He was a popular subject for Currier & Ives, who engraved his image alone and in harness. These images were the inspiration for many period horse weathervanes.
