Description
Six Antique Matching Sterling Silver Bowls from Berry & Whitmore in Washington DC. Manufactured by Whiting Manufacturing of New York for Berry & Whitmore in 1912. Monogrammed MEW. Each bowl measures approx 5 1/2"x5 1/2"x1". Total sterling weight is 515 grams. PROVENANCE: A Washington DC / Charleston SC Private Estate. Charles E. Berry Sr. began as a jeweler’s apprentice for the prestigious firm of Galt Brothers in 1887, working with that firm until he started the partnership of Shaw & Berry in 1899, establishing their business on the corner of 11th and F streets. Mr. Shaw retired and the partnership of Berry & Whitmore began, soon to become one of the leading jewelry firms in the City. Berry & Whitmore carried a wide range of quality items and served many clients throughout Washington D. C. including Marjorie Meriwether Post and the White House. They proudly marked the silver he sold with his company name. Many of the pieces still grace the collections of silver lovers throughout the country.
