Impressive and highly detailed playing card box with various wood inlay, from the mid to late 1800's. This antique wooden card box was made with careful precision and has an open slide partition, also made with thin layers of wood. Symmetrical inlaid designs; griffin-like mythical creatures, each holding a pair of playing cards, all four suits. Also adorn with larger mythical griffins, dancing birds, filigree and a leafy vine bordering the center. The sides are most magnificent with very small mosaic wood tiles set carefully to create a mythological filigree. Approximate Measurements: 4 3/4" L x 3 1/2" W x 2" T. Condition: Some wear and damage; missing inlaid wood veneer and tiles. Box still opens and closes smoothly.
