Description
Titled 'Dolly 1936' in the lower center, signed lower right, 'proof' edition lower left appears to read 'proof 100'' further annotated in pencil 'Ernest Roth imp.' in the margin. Sources indicate an edition of 100 intended impressions though the actual edition may be 90, an etching and engraving on cream wove paper by Ernest Roth, New York city in 1936. Signed and dated 1936 in the plate. John Sloan was an important early 20th century American artist recognized as a founder and a force within important art movements that include the Ashcan School which focused on everyday genre scenes of America's poorer citizens. The plate size is 6 x 7.75 inches, sheet size is 10 x 12.75 inches, frame size is 16.5 x 20.5 inches. Condition
Very good condition. The full untrimmed sheet has not been laid down, all wide original margins are intact, there are no stains, tears, creases, punctures or condition issues of any type beyond a faint, pale outline from a previous mat.
