Description
A choice Near Eastern zoomorphic ceramic ritual vessel, c. 1400 - 1000 BC, hand modeled with wide, flat body, long slender legs and a tail. The head nicely rendered with short snout and pointed ears, the eyes circular wit raised circular decoration covering the chest, each incised with one or more circles. At the sides of the vessel are ywo small jars attached to the edge of the body and a cylindrical spout emerges from the back with impressed circle decoration around the rim, a single handle behind. H: 6 1/2 in (16.5 cm); L: 5 in (12.7 cm). A rare and attractive piece which is extremely well-preserved with light surface deposits. Ex Jay Gluck collection; Ex Orange County private collection.
