THIS IS A COLOR INTAGLIO . AN INTAGLIO IS A PRINT MAKING TECHNIQUE WHERE AS THE IMAGE IS INCISED INTO THE SURFACE AND THIS INCISED LINE HOLDS THE INK OR SUNKEN AREA HOLDS THE INK. OTHER FSMOUS INTSGLIO ARTISTS WERE PICASSO, EDWARD HOPPER, ALBRECHT DURER, GOYA AND REMBRANDT.
The real name is Mariam tadaaki who was born in lbaraki prefecture. He was guided by the so saki hanga leading artist, Onchi Koshiro. He was represented various years at the Tokyo International Print Biennale in Tokyo. He is best known for his abstract calligraphic prints. He distorted and rearranged characters and strokes to produce striking and serene images.
The book, "Ancient Wine: Ancient JAPANESE Poems from the Kinkafu" is a translation of 21 ancient poems called Kinkafu or "music for wagon songs". The translation is accompanied by HAKU Maki's prints that were made in 1968-1969.
