Description
This fantastic spiral bound notebook contains approximately 35 sheets of handwritten notes and lyrics by Johnny Winter. It features lyrics for unrecorded songs such as "Goin' Back to Texas," (possibly an early version of what later became his song, ïDallas'), "Hell of a Woman" (which features the gem, "The little girl would argue with the devil / and what's more she'd probably win / If you mess with the woman once / I swear you won't do that again"), "Tough as Nails" ("I can get by on a little / but I'd rather have a lot"), and "When I Die" ("I want to help my neighbor / cause I want to see my mother when I die"). There are also many untitled drafts, the lyrics of which do not appear to match any of Winter's published recordings.
In addition to well-known favorites, such as "If You Got a Good Woman," "You Lie too Much," and "Let Me In," from the album of the same name, as well as "White Line Blues" (here titled "White Line Fever Blues"), "Johnny Guitar," "You Keep Sayin' that You're Leaving," and "Treat me Like You Wanta" which were eventually featured on "Hey, Where's Your Brother?," as well as a very early pass at "Sugar Coated Love," later to be featured on "I'm a Bluesman."
All-in-all, a great selection of both Winter favorites and newly unearthed compositions.
