Item Details
Description
Mickey Kaplan is an accomplished contemporary artist, born in the Panama Canal Zone in 1950. Kaplan draws his subject matter from significant late 20th century current events and personalities. In his oversized mixed-media canvases referred to as "Homages", he clearly acknowledges the influences that many of the contemporary masters - Picasso, Rauschenberg, Warhol, Dali, and de Kooning among them - had on his own oeuvre. Using an original combination of paint and photo emulsion on canvases measuring 60" x 72" or larger, Kaplan's series, "Lennon and Yoko," captures memorable moments in the lives of this famous couple, with the painting "A Day in the Life (I Heard the News Today)", offered here, memorializing the day that their life together so tragically ended. "A Day in the Life" was exhibited in the John Lennon retrospective organized by Yoko Ono at the Museum of Modern Art in 1982, and is one of two original canvases in the series, the other of which is believed to be in the collection of David Geffen.

Silkscreen and paint on canvas. 60" x 72".

Please note: This item is not from the collection provided by the Winter family but has been included in the auction because of the clear connection between Johnny Winter and John Lennon. It has extensive provenance and has been in Guernsey's possession for years.
