Description
Alex Keighley was a pioneer in the pictorialist movement in photography. Pictorialism is a style in which the photographer manipulates the photo to have a softer focus, and an almost brushstroke-like texture, resulting in a photo that appears like a painting. Keighley was a member of the photographic group the Linked Ring Brotherhood from 1900, a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society from 1910 and an important figure behind the formation of the Yorkshire Photographic Union, the first federation of regional societies in England.
