Description
Izis Bidermanas was a Lithuanian-Jewish photographer who worked in France and is best known for his photographs of French circuses and of Paris. Izis first arrived in Paris in 1930 to become a painter, but gravitated towards photographer shortly after. By 1933, he was directing his own studio of photography. He became a major figure in the mid-century French movement of humanist photography, also explored by photographers Brassai and Cartier-Bresson, which presented a poetic image of the city and its inhabitants.
