[Homann/Virginia/Maryland/Carolinas] VIRGINIA MARYLANDIA ET CAROLINA IN AMERICA SEPTENTRIONALI BRITANNORUM INDUSTRIA EXCULTAE.
[Johann Baptiste Homann, ca. 1730-1760. First engraved c. 1714. This is after the addition of a privilege statement. Remained in use in 1759, when Homann’s Heirs used it in Vol 1 of Atlas Geographicus Major.] Phillips, Maps, 982. Papenfuse and Coale, p24. Labels counties, settlements, and rivers, and has a boundary between East and “West New Jarsey.” Large Appalachian lake, elaborate cartouche. Modern hand coloring. Blank verso.
Outer edge of border: 19 1/8 x 22 5/8 in. Trimmed to plate mark (resulting sheet size 19 ½ x 23 ¼ in.). Verso has tape to edges. Creasing to top-center with possible expert repair to that portion of verso. Image near fine.
