Description
Thangka of Avalokiteshvara or Guanyin from the Mid- Qing Dynasty. Thangka depicts Avalokiteshvara standing in the center with 8 arms and 11 visible heads. The bodhisattva holds a dharmachakra wheel, prayer beads, a bow, a flower, and a pitcher or vase. Towards the bottom of the thangka are 3 fierce protective deities, some riding upon beasts. 2 bodhisattvas are seated in meditation on either side of Avalokiteshvara and 5 are seated in an arch above his head. The thangka is green ground and the colors of the figures are bright. Avalokiteshvara is gilt.
Dimensions are 24 7/8 inches high by 16 3/4 inches wide. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: It is frayed and has some damage. Very worn with age.
