Description
Gilt bronze Buddhist deity atop a tiger from the late Qing Dynasty. The Buddha's hands are forming the Dharmachakra Mudra. The Buddha is likely a protective deity from the Buddhist pantheon. He has an ushnisha that looks much like a top knot, wears a 5 pointed crown and is adorned with jewelry. He rides upon a guardian lion that stands upon a lotus base. The bottom of the base is incised with a double vajra.
Dimensions are 5 1/4 inches wide by 6 3/8 inches high. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: It is in overall good condition with some spots of wear to the bronze and gilt. It has the number 746 in vinyl on the base.
Provenance: From a New York estate.
