Description
A wonderful 1871 patent comes on this Yankee lantern. It has Pat May 30, 1871 on the top and the same date also cast onto the globe. This lantern uses two unusual spring clips to hold the globe in place. It's a terrible design. This set of clips seems strong, some you wonder how many times you can take the globe out! The brass cap is great. It has a "Brady" style bell which is not standard on these frames. The bell has large holes for air intake. It also has a pinch pot with additional intake holes so it passes the laugh test on not being cobbled together. There is a minor split on the base where the clips are near the vertical joint. Trust me, don't wait for another like it to come along. It's what is called a "corker" in Maine. The globe is fine with large flanges that hold the spring clip rings. Please ask for help during the preview - There is a trick to HOW you should use the clips. I'll be more than happy to demonstrate this. Please just ask.
Sept 29 - I am adding a picture of one of the bail grommets. They are both intact.
