Carlo Mollino (1905-1973)
Born in Turin, Carlo Mollino studied art history and architecture at the Istituto Superiore di Architettura. In 1931, he began to work in the studio of his father Eugenio, one of the most famous architects of the city, but together they realized only a few projects. Mollino is considered all-rounder, who excelled in the fields of architecture, furniture and car design, as well as photography. He reported several patents, including the cold deformation of plywood. His innovative designs feature mainly new material combinations. Mollino designed sculptural individual pieces and declined mass production. He is regarded as a creator of organic design, and his furniture designs achieve top prices at international auctions.
