AMERICAN STERLING SILVER WEIGHTED CANDLESTICKS WITH HURRICANE SHADES, TWO PAIR, comprising a pair marked for Redlich & Company and retailer Black, Starr & Gorham, with shade-holder insert marked "Sterling / 925"; and a pair marked for Hunt Silver Co., with silver-plated shade-holder inserts marked for Gorham, likely together by association; shades with engraved floral and foliate decoration. First half 20th century. The first pair 6" H to socket rim, 14 1/2" HOA, the second pair 5 1/2" H to socket rim, 13 1/2" HOA.

Catalogue Note: Redlich & Company became part of Elgin Silversmith Co. in 1946, and Elgin continued to use the Redlich & Company mark present on this pair of candlesticks into the 1970s. The date attribution for this lot is based on the marking for retailer Black, Starr & Frost, which changed it's name to Black, Starr & Gorham in 1900, and operated under that name until 1929, when it merged with Gorham Silver, and became Black, Starr & Frost-Gorham Inc.
