Description
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Valdivian people, Earliest Horizon, ca. 2300 to 2000 BCE. This is a light gray limestone carved in a stylized curved form with boldly cut lines delineating arrows and dots drilled in an abstract design. This is an example of some very early stone art, from one of the earliest settled cultures recorded in the Americas. The Valdivia lived in communities that built their homes around a central plaza in a circle or ovoid shape; they were fishermen primarily who also did some subsistence farming and hunting to supplement their diet. Size: 6.6" W x 4.4" H (16.8 cm x 11.2 cm)
