South America, ca. 17th century CE. A hand carved and hand painted wooden santo with articulated arms, wearing flowing garments with remaining red, white, and blue pigment, and a delicately delineated visage presenting inlaid, white stone eyes. A wonderful holy image that bespeaks of a Hispanic religious and artistic tradition inspired after priests and missionaries spread Catholicism to the Spanish colonies in the Americas. Size: 11" H (27.9 cm)
