Description
Persia (Iran), Nishapur area, ca. late 10th century to early 13th century CE. This bowl, with steep sides and a small foot, is glazed with a dark green and decorated with black floral and geometric patterns on its interior. Aside from a wide band around the rim, the exterior is unglazed. Nishapur, located on the plateau at the center of Iran, was a seat of governmental power in the medieval Islamic world as well as a great trading city along the Silk Road until it was completely destroyed by the Mongols in 1221. Size: 8.25" W x 3.5" H (21 cm x 8.9 cm)
