English, early 19th century. A Regency period pagoda form sewing box, with tortoiseshell veneer and overall mother of pearl floral inlay, on carved ball feet, with a central silver key escutcheon. Hinged lid opens to reveal a purple velvet tray, divided into compartments with beaded silver separators, each compartment holding mother of pearl and silver sewing tools, including carved nine spools with rosettes, two thimbles, two needle holders, four thread wraps, two scissors, a leather punch, an awl, a hook, a tiny funnel, and a pin cushion. Three compartments open for additional storage, and tray lifts out to purple silk-lined lower compartment. Interior lid with hinged French board, folding forward to reveal a document envelope for pattern storage, with lace samples within. Apparently unmarked. Approximate height 7", width 11", depth 9.25".

Wear commensurate with age and use. Silver stringing has broken and is missing in a few places. Some minor losses to mother of pearl inlay. Several areas of repair and overpainting to exterior, particularly to one corner. Some seam separation. Interior velvet lining has faded, and silk has some stains and discoloration. Missing ribbon to lift tray and mother of pearl thimble. Mother of pearl handle was previously broken off of sewing hook, and both are wrapped inside compartment beneath tools.
