Catalogue Note: A French painter, born in Saint-Jean - l'Angely in 1817, he entered the l'Ecole des Beaux Arts in 1840. He became a pupil of Drolling and Cabat and began exhibiting at the Paris Salon in 1843. He was awarded a gold medal there in 1865. A highly successful painter in his day, his work is of the highest quality and much sought after by collectors of quality nineteenth century paintings. His work is represented in the museums of Pontoise and Reims, the latter as part of the Vasnier Collection.
