Description
This ceremonial helmet is lacquered black with brass and leather. The crown is topped by a red, felt crest. The visor is decorated with a bronze and brass emblem marking it as part of the "Fifth Royal Irish Lancers" and holding a crest with a lion and a horse bracketing a shield and crown. A pair of brass lion heads are on either side of the helmet with a hook beneath the chin to hold the leather and brass strap.

History: Originally James Wynne's Regiment of Dragoons in 1689, the 5th Royal Irish Lancers went through a series of name changes over two hundred years before settling on the final name is 1861. This helmet bears the names of battles fought in, including Suakin, Oudenarde, and Malplaquet.
