Description
Superb decorative designs along the surface of the vases, both depicting scenes from life. The larger of the two is more faded in its coloration, but more intricate in its gilding, showcasing raised lines of gold. The smaller is similarly enameled, but smoother. They are signed on the base, with stippling decoration.

Condition: The larger of the two is the more worn, dating back to about 1850, while the smaller is closer to 1880. Cracks, small chips, and rubbing on the larger vase from midsection up, but it showcases stability in its structure. Minor gilt wear and expected craquelure to the glaze on both.
History: The Satsuma pottery was considered at its peak before 1880, when it was still hand-made and care given, with attention to detail and craftsmanship before the rise of mass-produced items that flooded the global market following the Industrial Revolution in Japan.
