Enameled & freshwater pearl border around beveled glass with woven human hair under the glass. The hair is not necessarily from the deceased; in the middle of the 19th century, 50 tons of human hair a year was imported into England for use by the country's jewelers.Mourning jewelry has been around since at least the 16th century, but it is widely associated with the Victorian Era.These pieces have tube hinge clasps with a 'C' catch, dating them circa 1850.

Yellow stone brooch has some bends in the bezel and a solder repair with copper wire around the bezel. The yellow glass/stone shows signs of wear from age, including minor chips and scratches.
