Very nicely framed, few scrapes on frame from over the years. Painting excellent.
Spectacular abstract painting. Very dramatic in person. Awesome use of color and application of paint.
Carlos uses bold, vibrant colors in his paintings. Born in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala in 1937 and moved to San Francisco Mission District in 1956. He was a founding member of Galeria de la Raza and worked closely with the Galeria. Lorca was director of the art gallery at the Mission Cultural Center and was the gallery director at SOMARTS. He has been painting for over five decades. His work is based on the tradition of the Maya Indian which infuses the bright vibrant colors of nature.
Loarca's art has been featured around the world. He has exhibited around the world from his hometown to Spain, Russia, London, etc. He has enjoyed over 50 one person shows.
What is interesting is that most of Loarca's work remains in his sole possession. His originals sell for up to $25,000 with the average price being $7,500. He recently had a large retrospective of his extensive paintings.
He has books published on his work, including, " A Possible Reality: Carlos Loarca: Artist and Muralist.
