Beautiful edition, dating less than a decade after the Paris Exposition of 1867 when Europe seemed to discover Japanese art. Includes a very good history of and guide to Japanese ceramics together with detailed descriptions of the pieces reproduced, including dimensions and provenance. Most of the pieces are from private English collections including those of the Duke of Edinburgh, A.W. Franks, Major J. Walter and both of the authors. Originally issued in parts with contents loose, in wrappers; the present copy was never bound, as most were, but the wrappers are no longer extant.

Some marginal darkening, with half-title a bit darkened as well, slight nicks to a few corners, very good, plates bright and quite lovely.
