Date: 1950 Circa NOTES: Probably her uncle's cellar in Whitestone, NY, painted during one of her many trips to America where she lived, painted and exhibited at the Art Students League in New York, where it may have been exhibited in the Art Student's League Tercentenary in New York in 1950. Powerful painting loaded with symbols on the wall. OC. Claude Bouscharain studied at Beaux-Arts and Acaemie Montmartre with Fernand Leger, both in Paris, before moving to Johannesburg with her husband renowned South African artist Erik Laubscher. Many joint exhibitions with Laubscher, in Cape Town, Durban Art Museum, Cite International des Arts in Paris. Monograph by Bruce Arnott published by Struik. Has a patch on the back, well-restored. One of South Africa's leading 20th century artists. Not signed, from family's estate. Has stamp on stretcher "The Little Gallery."
