Description
Four pasteboard passes for the counting of the electoral votes leading up to the Compromise of 1877 for the so-called "Stolen Election," which elected Rutherford B. Hayes to the office of President. One in blue (dated February 20, 1877), one in yellow (dated February 22, 1877, numbered 1133), one in white (dated February 24, 1877, numbered 542), and the last in blue (dated March 2, 1877, numbered 1390). Each imprinted: "Counting the Vote for President and Vice-President / Admit Bearer / To Gallery of House of Representatives" above date and number, as well as two printed Signatures. Special Note: March 2nd, 1877 was the final date that this 15-member committee met and decided outcome of the election.
Condition
All in fair to good condition. All exhibit age toning. Yellow card has some smudges and light wear at bottom. White card bears damage from fold in top right corner, as well as some soiling. Blue (March 2) card bears scraped portion near the word, "counting" and residue/staining near bottom edge. Blue (February 20) card exhibits significant loss at lower right, wear at all corners, some staining and soiling. Dimensions: Overall - 3.00 " H x 3.75 " W each .
