Description
This Impressionist painting of a willow tree and the surrounding meadow is expertly painted with thickly textured brushwork. The technique is informed by the styles of Childe Hassam and other American masters active in the Lyme Connecticut art colony in the early 1900's. The painting is from that era. The painting is unsigned, and was found in very bad condition, with advanced, unstable craquelure (See the before and after photo.) When the painting was taken off of its stretchers for relining, we found that they are marked patent 1893. After treating the canvas and stabilizing the paint, the canvas was replaced onto the original stretchers, with the patent mark facing the back, so it can be seen. (doesn't show in the photos) The paint has been stabilized, and the cracks have been reduced, but they are still evident, enhancing the antique character of the painting. This piece of American art history now has new life, and is housed in a new gold-metal leafed plein air style frame, ready for your wall! The canvas size is 20"x16", The frame is 28"x22" Item ID: 3238E Fixed Price Shipping & Insurance on this item =$47.00
