CHINESE EXPORT BLACK LACQUER AND GILT SEWING WORK BOX, chinoiserie decoration, two handles and a hinged lid, lift-out tray with fifteen various compartments including some with bone holders and two with lids, bottom with a large drawer fitted with six compartments including center compartment with a hinged lid and supports for a writing desk, supported by two gilt wood figural claw feet and two ball feet together by association. Bone needle working tools include a carved container holder, spool holder. Fitted with a key. Fourth quarter 19th century. 6" HOA, 10 1/2" x 14 1/2" OA.
Good overall condition, moderate wear and losses to decoration, minor losses to wood and expected separations to wood including the underside of base, replaced hinges, compartments with detached and some losses to dividers.
