Condition:

The mixed media on papier is in overall good condition. The sheet is slightly toned and bears occasional faint stains. It is mounted to a mat at points on the reverse. The closed-corner frame is in good condition with only minor signs of use. The sheet measures 33.3 x 50.9 cm. The framed dimensions are 29.5 x 75.8 cm.

Corneille, born Guillaume Cornelis van Beverloo (1922-2010)

The Dutch artist Corneille studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam. He had his first solo exhibition in 1946. One year later he joined the artist movement ‘Reflex’, together with Karel Appel and Constant Nieuwenhuys, followed by the founding of the CoBrA group in Paris only one year later. In 1949 Corneille travelled through many exotic countries, showing the influence in his work. In 1950 Corneille settled in Paris, where he lived and worked until his death.
