Roberts states that he would have supported his correspondent's brother's application for the appointment of Military Secretary to the India Office had he not already written in favour of another candidate, also adding 'Another reason is that (I am told) Sir Oliver Newmarch's succession has been decided upon. I gather that my nominee is not the lucky man, in which case I hope your brother has been selected, as I believe him to be well fitted for the position'. Buller states that it was kind of his correspondent to allow him to delay in replying to her invitation, which he now adds he will be glad to accept.
