A SCARCE BOOK WITH A SCARCE SET OF SIGNATURE BY THE ADMIRAL RICHARD BYRD & THE AUTHOR WHO WAS BYRD'S AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHER ON THE EXPEDITION TO THE SOUTH POLE. "The author was a pioneer in aerial photography & presents in this book a thoroughly practial knowledge of aerial cameras, photographic emulsions, & photo processes. Those interested in aerial photography will find the book provids an astonishing amount of information on all the important phases of this fascinating subject." Ashley Chadbourne McKinley 1896-1970 was an accomplished American aerial photographer and colonel in the U.S. Army Air Corps who helped pioneer aviation at subzero temperatures. He accompanied Richard E. Byrd as an aerial photographer on his expedition to the South Pole. He was one of four men aboard the first aircraft to fly over the South Pole on November 29, 1929. McKinley was the first person to suggest that U.S. aircraft be constructed to operate in subzero temperatures & that the Air Force build a facility to test aircraft in subzero temperatures. Rear Admiral Richard Evelyn Byrd, Jr. 1888-1957 was an American naval officer who specialized in feats of exploration. He was a pioneering American aviator, polar explorer, and organizer of polar logistics. Byrd claimed that his expeditions had been the first to reach both the North Pole and the South Pole by air. However, his claim to have reached the North Pole is now disputed.
