New Mexico, ca. 1970, Original carved wood figure by world famous artist George Lopez. George López came from the village of Cordova, situated in a small valley of the Sangre de Christo mountain range north of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Cordova, one of the early Spanish settlements dating from the sixteenth century, has become widely known throughout the United States and Europe for its tradition of religious wood carving. This very fine example features a standing saint, with face on lower skirt, hands held outward, radiate crown with cross surrounding his head. A very fine example! Size: 22" H (55.9 cm)
