For a long time, I was not exactlly positive what this Tiffany piece was used for. It resembles a letter opener with a blunt point or a small page turner. But, thanks to one of my customers that comes into my store, the mystery has been solved. They immediately identified it as being exactly like the one that their grandfather used to open cigar boxes. This opener is of substantial construction and it is all sterling silver, blade and handle. The handle is squarish with an allover engraved decorative motif, possible arabesque. There is a medallion on each side of the handle for personalized engraving and on one side it is beautifully hand engraved "TEV'. On the reverse side the handle is also beautifully engraved "1803 Feb'y 1883." The opener has an overall length of approximately eight inches. The blunt blade is thin enough and sharp enough to easily slice through the paper cigar labels that seal cigar boxes and fit between the wooden lid and the cigar box and yet it is substantial enough to use to ply the wooden lids open if necessary. This would be a great gift for the cigar smoker that seems to have everything and/or a great piece to add to a smoker's smoking collection.
