Description
Liu LingCang (Chinese, 1907-1989), watercolor ink on paper laid to silk. Hand painting depicted two female figures seated on garden bench behind a rockwork table, with incense burner, censer, and jars beneath a tropical tree. Calligraphy lettering inscriptions on the upper left, followed with artist's signature and iron-red seals.
Matted on creme-teal before the grayish-green silk borders.

Liu LingCang (1907-1989)
Liu LingCang was a famous painter in modern China. He mastered portrait of lady. His teacher is the great artist Xu YanSun. Most of his works were in the Chinese traditional style. In his efforts to create a new form of national art, he combined Chinese brush and ink techniques with Western perspective and methods of composition. He integrated firm and bold brush strokes with the precise delineation of form. As an art teacher, he advocated the subordination of technique to artistic conception and emphasizes the importance of the artist's experiences in life.
