Sylvain Salires (French, 1865-1920). A bronze ovoid wall plaque with profile portrait bust of a woman in relief, marked S. SALIRES/1917; ht. 22.5, wd. 18.5 in.Sylvain Salires was a French sculptor who studied at the Ecole des Beau-Arts in Toulouse. He immigrated to the United States in the early 20th century where he worked on the interior decoration of Grand Central Station and the sarcophagus of John Paul Jones at Annapolis. At the end of his life, Salires served as the Head of the Department of Sculpture at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh, PA. SHIPPING AND HANDLING IS $45 WITHIN THE US.
