Description
A very scarce and fine example circa 1780-1810 Enameled Portrait Necklace. French or Russian, the necklace is of filigree vermeil and features eleven hand painted enamel plaques placed on the necklace with attached swag and conclude with a plaque on a bow and ball drop. Five of the plaques are detailed with portraits of men garbed in regional dress. Six of the plaques are enameled floral urns. The back of every plaque are also enameled and feature gilt enameled accents, with the exception of the back of one plaque which is in white and has a hallmark. The necklace is exquisite, but fragile and has a break in the front and one side that has been reattached with jump rings. Still displays well and can be worn as is. This necklace has been in the same family for several generations. Measures 16" when opened and Center is 3.75" long. PROVENANCE: A Washington DC / Charleston SC Private Estate.
Condition
Antique. The necklace is exquisite, but fragile and has a break in the front and one side that has been reattached with jump rings. Still displays well and can be worn as is.
