Large Cast Iron Garden Urns with Flambeau Finials

Item Details

Description

Continental, late 19th/ early 20th century. A pair of large black painted cast iron garden urns with cast stone flambeau finials, each urn comprising spreading ring foot with gadroon band at knee, surmounted by a large cylindrical urn form with tall leaf tip band at base under laurel leaf swags joined at shoulder by Bacchanalian masks and surrounding rosette medallions in relief, the flat-top shoulder issuing short incurvate neck with narrow band of flutes and lift-off cast stone open flame form finials, allover with black painted finish. Unmarked. Approximate height 41", width across handles 19.5", diameter 16".

Condition

Typical wear commensurate with age and outdoor use. Oxidation to bases and paint losses to bodies. Flambeau finials missing some flames, with losses to paint. Each urn with circular painted concrete repair to shoulder, possibly where medallion once was. Mossy from outdoor use.
