Ernest Rancoulet (French, 1870-1915), late 19th / early 20th century. A group of two figural bronze sculptures with bulbous ribbed Siena marble bases, each signed on top of bronze base "Rancoulet", each with label to underside of base "Ernest Rancoulet 1870-1905 French Vol I 358", group comprising "Diana The Huntress" depicting Roman goddess Diana as she reaches for an arrow from the quiver on her back, her right leg is depicted in mid-air as she lunges forward in preparation to engage her weapon; and "Young Triton" depicting Greek god Triton, the so-called Trumpeter of the Sea, with spiraled conch in raised hand, with fabric draped at his waist. "Diana the Huntress" overall approximately 8" x 3.5" x 2.25"."Young Triton" overall approximately 8.5" x 4" x 2.25". Note: Diana was the Roman goddess of the hunt, the moon and childbirth. She is commonly associated with animals (wild) and woodlands. Diana was known to have the power to talk to (and control) animals. Diana is often compared to the Greek goddess Artemis.
