NEW ENGLAND COUNTRY CHERRY CORNER / SMOKING CHAIR, the broad D-shaped arm rail with applied low crest and out-turned rounded terminals, vase-and-ring-turnings, later woven-rush seat and double stretcher. Old refinished surface with mellow color. Late 18th/early 19th century. 31 1/4" H, 17 1/4" SQ (seat).
Cracks/breaks and old repairs to arm rail and crest. Seat replaced.

Provenance: Property deaccessioned by the Thomas Jefferson Foundation at Monticello to benefit the collections and acquisitions funds.
