Description
Roman Empire, ca. 1st century BCE to 4th century CE. This is a bronze plumb bob in the classic Roman shape, squat and conical with a knob at one end and groove lines around the body. Plumb bobs were used by the Romans alone by masons or carpenters, or in instruments like the groma or chorobate by surveyors. The British Museum holds a very similar piece. Size: 1.4" W x 2.1" H (3.6 cm x 5.3 cm)
