Description
A Russian gem-set gilded silver, gilt metal and cloisonné enamel panagea icon of the Last Supper, 17th/early 19th century. The panagea-shaped pendant of gilt metal, the front with border enameled with stylized flowers in the 17th-century style within cable borders and set with carnelian, pearls, and pastes, centered with a gilded silver chased and repoussé oklad covering an icon of the Last Supper, struck with Cyrillic initials AK of an unidentified Moscow silversmith active 1835-1849 (Postnikova-Loseva nos. 2198 and 2199), the mark of assayer Nikolai Lukich Dubrovin (active 1822-1855), Moscow hallmark, 84 standard, and obscured date mark; the body with a wood fill, the reverse covered with a faded green silk visible through the pierced work of the reverse, with shaped triangular suspension piece with conforming ornament, suspended from gilt metal chain. Height including suspension loop 7 3/4 in. (19.6 cm), width 5 3/4 in. (14.6 cm).
