China, late 19th century
Signed KW ‘Kwan Wo’ of Canton with Chinese characters on the base; tea strainer marked instead with engraving by another maker, TC for Tuck Chang & Co, Shanghai
Lot comprised of a lidded teapot, open sugar bowl, creamer and tea strainer, also comes with a lovely salt and pepper containers
Each piece is elegantly ornamented with blossoming Prunus trees and birds except the tea strainer and one of the containers with chrysanthemum scrolls
Exceptionally well-chiseled wall, bamboo-stalk shaped handles and bamboo-stalk spout
The teapot handle has a pair of animal bone insulators, a later replacement

This circular bellied teapot, creamer and sugar pot are superbly decorated with a wrap-around scene of blossoming prunus trees and joyful birds against a fine silver wall. The set contains a tea strainer and salt and pepper containers as well. The teapot, c and except for one of the containers with a plum branch, they are adorned with chrysanthemum and foliage scrolls.
The attached lid of the teapot is adorned with a bamboo stalk shaped knob, circled by bamboo leaves. The silversmith and retailer Kwan Wo was active in Canton from 1870 to 1925. Tuck Chang & Co was active in Shanghai in the late 19th to early 20th century.
Condition
The set is in very good condition with light scratches.
