The beautifully carved and detailed lacquer box is covered in layers of red lacquer against a black lacquered background, exhibiting the elaborate and perfect carving of the Qianlong period. Following an irregular oval form, the design of this cinnabar lacquered box is nevertheless confined to a small framed area, creating depth through a multi-layered, elaborate carving. The red lacquered top of the cover exhibits the design of a blossoming pomegranate with meandering branches, leaves and fruits against a black lacquered background. Densely textured with various diaper patterns and finely executed details, the smooth and gently polished surfaces of this small box allude to the sensuous appraisal of the connoisseur.

Condition

The lacquer box is in overall very good condition with very minor signs of age and wear. A few losses on the lacquer and nicks on the edge.
