A line engraving of the legendary playwright, dramatist, and poet William Shakespeare created by the engraver and print seller John Goldar, an artist associated with 45 portraits according to the National Portrait Gallery in London, after a design by John Taylor, an artist associated with 11 portraits. The well-executed portrait of the Shakespeare in 3/4 view is within an oval set within a decorated rectangle. Above it reads "William Shakespear." and below "In the Possession of John Nicoll Esq." The National Portrait Gallery in London has a similar example in its collection and links this image to Tarnya Cooper's catalogue entitled "Searching for Shakespeare" (2006) accompanying the exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery from 2 March - 29 May 2006), p. 221.
