Description
Southwestern North America, Navajo (Navaho) peoples, ca. mid-20th century CE. This is a pair of dolls carved from soft wood and covered in a fine grey clay pigment. Both have deep black painted hair and inset disc eyes; the taller figure has a long white beard made of cotton. These dolls were used in healing rituals to draw illness out of sick patients. Size of largest: 2.4" W x 8.25" H (6.1 cm x 21 cm)
