Ed Moses (American, b.1926)
Before visiting New York and exposure to Abstract Expressionists including Rothko, de Kooning, and writer Greenberg, Ed Moses attended the Long Beach City College, University of Oregon and UCLA. As a member of the first generation stable at Ferus Gallery and key member of the Cool School (Larry Bell, Kauffman, Ed Ruscha), Moses’ works feature varied levels of abstraction from semi-representational to color fields and “crackle paintings.” His long and prominent career on the west coast of the United States has earned solo shows at LACMA and MOCA, Los Angeles and inclusion of major collections such as the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Hammer Museum, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Museum of Modern Art, New York.
